Abstract

MEYER, Luiz. Crises and family trauma. J. psicanal. [online]. 2007, vol.40, n.72, pp.165-175. ISSN 0103-5835.

The paper at its beginning discusses the notion of crises and trauma. It proceeds approaching them as inherent to the functioning of the family dynamic and its developmental cycle. This way of thinking is illustrated by a clinical vignette that describes the behavior of a family (whose members had several different origins) when they had to face a tragic accident that led to the death of one of its members: a three year old child. In the discussion the author indicate as the central traumatic experience the loss of trust in the protective and integrative object with which the family was identified until the occurrence of the accident.

Keywords : Family; Crisis; Trauma; Integrating object.
