Starting from a concern about a certain conceptual stretching observed in the field of psychoanalysis, the author traces back the origins and the development of the concept of transference in Freud, Klein and Bion, with emphasis on the different clinical fields in which the concept was brought upon and modified by the authors above. Some similarities and differences are highlighted in this route, and the idea is put forward that there should be rigor in the naming of concepts and phenomena, in a way to contribute to scientific exchange and the development of psychoanalysis.
