Abstract

FRANCA, Maria Thereza de Barros. The embryo of a terrorist: an exercise of observation of the movements in a session as part of child analysis training. J. psicanal. [online]. 2008, vol.41, n.75, pp. 193-205. ISSN 0103-5835.

The author introduces the main theoretical developments of the concepts of transference and countertransference, considering the psychic movements that occur in a session as a result of the contact between two minds as a joint creation. She then presents a session of the analysis of a boy with oedipical anxieties and difficulty in dealing with his aggressive impulses, describing the transferential and countertransferential movements, the technical handling and the bases of the interpretations. It emphasizes the patient’s representation of his anxieties through a playful construction of buildings in New York, and their destruction by aerial terrorist attacks - two months before the actual events took place. She concludes that the exercise carried through in her training on child analysis, as well as the containment in analysis of the destructive impulses and the strengthening of the child’s possibilities of reparation, are networks of progressive representations which favor development. Thus the idea “the embryo of a terrorist” served as a container for the elaboration of the psychic dynamics of the case, and represents an invitation for psychoanalysis to hand out its resources in favor of humanity.
