Abstract

MOTTA, Ivonise Fernandes da. When the psychoanalyst is pregnant: facilitation of the maternal and feminine inner world investigation. J. psicanal. [online]. 2009, vol.42, n.76, pp. 91-105. ISSN 0103-5835.

This work discusses the effects of the psychotherapist pregnancy in the psychotherapeutic process. The following aspects lead this study: possible facilitation and catalysis of primitive experiences with the mother; possible facilitation and catalysis of experiences related to the rupture of the symbiosis with the maternal figure, such as when a brother is born; undeniable presence of the psychotherapist sexuality with possible interferences in the psychotherapeutic process. Twenty four cases assisted by three pregnant psychotherapists working with psychoanalytic approach support this study. The first psychotherapist assisted three adult female patients. The second one supplied data of seven cases, five of which were adult female patients, one an adult male patient and one a little boy. The author of this work being also the third psychotherapist of this study followed fourteen cases, three of which were adult female patients and eleven were children and teenagers (six boys and five girls). The results showed that fantasies and anguishes related to genital sexuality; depressing experiences; revivals of miscarriages and dead brothers; investigation into sexuality and the inner feminine world, and experiences of rivalry among brothers and sisters were all facilitated during the psychotherapeutic process.
