Abstract

VANNUCCHI, Ana Maria Stucchi. Masculine and feminine: vicissitudes and mysteries. J. psicanal. [online]. 2009, vol.42, n.77, pp. 65-88. ISSN 0103-5835.

This theoretic and clinical study follows the psychoanalytical path of two young men struggling to build up their sexual identity. It aims to develop the idea that the access to masculinity is hard and tough, differently from what was believed by Freud. The current study dialogues with the ideas of Freud (castration, penis envy), Klein (breast and child-bearing ability envy), Ferrari (masculinity and femaleness basis), Winnicott (creativity and integration between masculine and feminine intra-psychic), Stoller (symbiosis anxiety, insecure virility) Breen (penis as a relationship link), Meltzer (introjective identification with an amorous parental couple), Bion (container/contained), and Bleichmar (paternal penis introjections), altogether articulated with clinical fragments. The study proposes that masculinity might be experienced as an arduous conquest, especially when it is grounded on an “insecure virility”, characterized by the lack of integration between masculine and feminine intra-psychic, as it is expressed in the clinical cases here presented.

Keywords : Fierce masculinity; Insecure virility; Paternal penis; Incorporation; Homosexual experiences; Penis as the basic link.
