ROSENZVAIG, Ana Maria Vieira. ICU conversations: parents’ group sessions in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. J. psicanal. [online]. 2010, vol.43, n.79, pp. 163-169. ISSN 0103-5835.

The article presents Parent’s Group Sessions as one of the preventive and therapeutic practices used in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It emphasizes the function of this practice as a special and privileged space offered to the parents, where talking may lead to the development of a subjective parent’s narrative about the baby and their relationship with him. It is discussed how this activity - narrative construction - may gradually facilitate the reestablishment of parents’ psychic gestation of their baby as well as reappropriation of parenting functions. It is also proposed that this practice - Parent’s Group Sessions - do establish a genuine interdisciplinary approach and attitude among the working staff at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Palavras-chave : Neonatal ICU; Interdisciplinary treatment approach; Narratives; Psychoanalysis.
