Abstract

ALMEIDA, Mariângela Mendes de. Facilitating flows within the analytic space: playing as a state of mind. J. psicanal. [online]. 2011, vol.44, n.80, pp. 165-176. ISSN 0103-5835.

Scenes of clinical work within fields to which Winnicott’s contribution has been relevant are presented: Early Intervention, through his therapeutic consultations and the work with patients in which primitive states are predominant. “Playing” is presented as a state of mind, as an instrument that can favour access to infantile areas of personality, facilitating psychic development. Playing is considered in its comprehensive meaning of freedom of investigation, flexibility of thought, modulation of mental states which allow space for the perception of otherness and newness, possibility of transit between fantasy and reality, external and internal worlds, inside and outside. In the vignettes, amplified in a discussion about clinical-conceptual issues, we could see how “fingers of feeling” could give signs of life in Guilherme, Flávio´s machines could think and experience loving links, the infantile within two babies and their parents could shout its knots and come into being and we, analysts, could let us get surprised and facilitate “playing”, in ours and in our patients´ minds.

Keywords : Playing; Analyst’s mind; Primitive states of mind; Clinical convergences; Analytic space.
