Abstract

URRIBARRI, Fernando. André Green: the father in contemporary theory and practice. J. psicanal. [online]. 2012, vol.45, n.82, pp. 143-159. ISSN 0103-5835.

This text is the opening lecture of a symposium in honor of André Green, on his 80th birthday: “The Father in contemporary psychoanalysis”. It proposes a panoramic view through this author’s works, following the thematic thread about the question of the father, Oedipus, and thirdness in psychoanalytic theory and practice. It aims at historicizing his thinking relating it with J. Lacan and the post-Lacanian movement, leading to the development of a new contemporary psychoanalytic model, to contextualize his most originals ideas. This overview highlights his study about the changes in psychoanalytic practice with non-neurotic structures (dead mother complex, central phobic position), and his ideas about thirdness, open triangularity with a replaceable third, and bi-triangularity.

Keywords : Father; Oedipus; Symbolization; Thirdness; Work of the negative.
