Based on the authors' experience, this article discusses the role and relevance of candidates associations in psychoanalytic institutions. The specificities of psychoanalytic training are discussed, bringing up paradoxal aspects: on the one hand, the value of individual experiences and processes, on the other hand, the constant need for belonging to a group - a phenomenon historically repeated and observed in the history of psychoanalysis. The article emphasizes that such associations may hold an important function of thirdness, as they bring new dimensions to the narcissistic contract established between candidates and their institutions.
