Abstract

MEYER, Luiz. Talking to a young analyst about psychoanalytic listening. J. psicanal. [online]. 2015, vol.48, n.89, pp. 203-218. ISSN 0103-5835.

The author imagines a conversation with a younger analyst about the concept of psychoanalytic listening. Another article, which was written by Marion Minerbo, has discussed the same subject and is often mentioned in this paper. Starting from a Green's quote about the need for abandoning the causal thinking in the understanding of psychoanalytic practice, the author presents psychoanalytic listening as devoted to the comprehension of unconscious dynamics, and not to their explanation. In the conversation, which is illustrated by two vignettes, the author approaches several subjects, such as the free-floating attention, the psychoanalytic posture, the variety of unconscious expressive forms, the varied structure of the self and its effects to the object relations, the psychoanalyst's empathetic attitude which is confused with his function of containing and elaborating psychic pain (which is basically expressed by the infantile component of personality).

Keywords : psychoanalytic listening; adult; child; infantile; psychic pain; empathy.
