Abstract

HAUDENSCHILD, Teresa Rocha Leite. Joan Riviere. J. psicanal. [online]. 2017, vol.50, n.92, pp. 251-264. ISSN 0103-5835.

This article is a brief biography of Joan Riviere, a pioneer of the British Society who contributed to Psychoanalysis as a translator of Freud's, Klein's, and other authors' work. This article reveals how Joan, with her characteristic shyness and simplicity, had a significant role in the progress of Psychoanalysis. Joan worked as a translation editor for the International Journal for 17 years. Besides her reviews and critiques of countless publications, she wrote original papers which have influenced the thinking of several authors, such as Winnicott, Susan Isaacs, John Bowlby, Hanna Segal, and Herbert Rosenfeld.

Keywords : Freud; Klein; femininity; maternity.
