Abstract

GUERRA, Victor. Symbolization and objects in psychic life: objects that tutor. J. psicanal. [online]. 2017, vol.50, n.92, pp. 267-287. ISSN 0103-5835.

In this paper, the author defends a hypothetical existence of a "tutoring" object - whose statute differs from the transitional object. The author relates this object to those processes of symbolization that happen to babies, adults, and art. He presents vignettes in which we can observe babies and a clinical case. He also brings some examples from art, by using paintings and poems to illustrate the hypothesis. The tutoring object would emerge as a way of psychic cocreation with the other, by revealing the particular importance of intersubjectivity in this process. The author develops the concept of spreading the tutoring object into a future function of testimony. In other words, it would be like an object that carries the subject's affective memory, which would enable a certain experience of psychic continuity.

Keywords : object; tutoring object; transitional object; memory; art.
