Abstract

FOSTER, Marta. Interpretation of dreams, and contemporaneity: a still fundamental rule. J. psicanal. [online]. 2017, vol.50, n.93, pp. 97-109. ISSN 0103-5835.

In this paper, the author presents clinical situations which justify extending the interpretation of night dreams by using, as proposed by Freud (1900), the method of free association of ideas, synonym of the fundamental rule. In the psychoanalytic field, this way of listening the nocturnal dream has been replaced by other method, the author observes. The author justifies her proposal by bringing her clinical experience. From her perspective, this approach to the interpretation of dreams enables the psychoanalytic listening to be developed. Primitive aspects of the patient's mental world may emerge in the psychoanalytic room. When this situation is observed, these aspects are better accepted by the patient. They bring him a greater perception of the complexity of his mental world and they increase his interest in being introduced to himself.

Keywords : fundamental rule; associative process; night dreams; nocturnal dreams; interpretation; free association of ideas.
