This paper is the author's reflections on the selection of applicants for the psychoanalytic training at "Durval Marcondes" Psychoanalytic Institute. The author takes into consideration the significant subjectivity in the process so that she emphasizes the importance of identifying in these candidates the genuine desire to be trained. She discusses the complexity of the task of selecting, and she writes about the changes imposed by the evolution of the psychoanalytic practice. The author also emphasizes the importance of both preparing good interviewers and creating a culture of selection.
