FRANCO, Wilson de Albuquerque Cavalcanti  e  KUPERMANN, Daniel. A location for psychoanalytical thinking: a hypothesis about the internal setting. J. psicanal. [online]. 2020, vol.53, n.99, pp. 59-74. ISSN 0103-5835.

Considering the multiplicity of institutions and theoretical frameworks dealing with the process for psychoanalytical formation, we propose in this essay a perspective by which such issues might be approached in a renewed and (luckily) inspiring way: focusing not on the social and institutional challenges themselves, but rather on the psychical developments through which a candidate comes about to consider oneself, lastly, a psychoanalyst. Such development assuredly encompasses theory, personal analysis and supervised practice, and it requires some sort of a sense of belonging within a psychoanalytical community (institutionalized or not); our focus here, nevertheless, will rest on the development of what André Green termed "internal setting" - it is our hypothesis that it is the development of such internal setting that is at stake through psychoanalytical training. Having established the basis for such hypothesis, we discuss lastly how it might contribute to ongoing debates within the psychoanalytical community regarding training and the basic capacities required for psychoanalytical thinking.
