From his extensive background and personal experience as a psychoanalyst, the author looks at the history of psychoanalysis to consider how the fundamental aspects of Freudian discovery are present in psychoanalysis today. In dialogue with training analysts, he considers the need to develop a common language, between analyst and patient, for the dialogue with borderline patients, placing the need for discussion of traditional psychoanalytical technique beyond the debate about the frequency of weekly sessions. He concludes that analysts of today and tomorrow must continually learn the art and be in touch with the technological and social changes of the world in which we live.
