Issues concerning gender identity present themselves in contemporary times as an imperative for psychoanalysis and for education. The question that better translates this imperative is whether we have been able to listen to what children tell us about this and what we have done with what we have heard. In the light of psychoanalysis and gender studies, this paper presents and analyzes classroom experiences in which manifestations of gender identity are present. The vignettes come from reports collected in an educational project developed in a public school in São Paulo state, in which the authors participated as coordinator and scholarship holder.
