How much sexuality is needed to interpret sexuality? That is the question at the center of this study. First addressing the Freudian emphasis on interpretation as the form of psychoanalytic knowledge, and sexuality as its essential content, the author then inverts these notions by analyzing the presence of sexual excitation, pleasure and displeasure, in the very form of interpretation. The text concludes with a clinical study in which the analyst's shifting excitations possess a therapeutic function.
