This work deals with a detail of the (Standard) translation of the title of an important article by Freud - "On narcissism: an introduction" -, trying to demonstrate how a small slip in his translation resulted in considerable damage to his understanding. Initially, criticisms to the translation of the Standard edition of the complete psychological works of Sigmund Freud are presented, and then, a brief history of the concept of narcissism in Freud's work, from which it is intended to demonstrate how narcissism renewed the libido theory.
