Abstract

CESAR, Fátima Flórido  and  RIBEIRO, Marina Ferreira da Rosa. The melancholic lining in the pandemic and the vitalizing function of the analyst. J. psicanal. [online]. 2022, vol.55, n.102, pp. 201-217. ISSN 0103-5835.

Based on the pandemic scenario, which triggered inconsolable pain, grief, guilt and endless reparations, we share in this article the assumption that what we here call melancholic fortress prevailed, triggered by the need for social isolation in addition to unexpected deaths and the ban on burial rituals. From there, mild melancholy sufferings arose to states of being overwhelmed by a dense melancholy that summoned us, as analysts, also affected by the pandemic, not to lose sight of our vitalizing function. To deepen the reflection, we present a clinical fragment that alerts us to the need to find ways to care for our patients, so that personal pain does not form a kind of adherence to the collective situation of helplessness and difficulties in dreaming of the future.

Keywords : pandemic; melancholy; vitalizing function; futures.
