Abstract

BARONE, Leda Maria Codeço. Literature and the development of identity. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2007, vol.24, n.74, pp. 110-116. ISSN 0103-8486.

Literature has many functions. We read in order to enjoy ourselves, to be informed, to keep our mind off things. We also read to be instructed, to magnify our horizons, to mitigate our fears and to communicate with others. From her personal experiences with literature and based on some ideas of Walter Benjamin, Umberto Eco and Antonio Cândido, the author discusses the importance of literature for the development of identity and the creation of the reader's world.
