Abstract

MOUSINHO, Renata et al. Language developmental and acquisition: difficulties that may appear in this course. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2008, vol.25, n.78, pp. 297-306. ISSN 0103-8486.

A proper language development is one of the key factors for a sound and harmonious child development, both regarding social and learning skills. The acquisition of language structure, meaning and use play an important role in language construction and in the understanding of language internal organization. However, there are often difficulties that may interfere in this process. This paper intends to undertake a review on language acquisition and development, speech and cognition, and then approach the obstacles that may interfere in this development, such as language acquisition delay, phonological deviations, specific language disorders, alterations in fluency and semantic-pragmatic disorders. Those difficulties may bring secondary school learning damage.

Keywords : Language development; Child development; Cognition; Communication; Speech; Language development disorders.
