Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was search into the development of phonologic awareness to level of rhyme in children 4-8 years, observing the effect of the variables age and sex. METHOD: This is a cross-sectional study analyzing development of phonologic awareness to level of rhyme. The instruments were used: tasks Judgment of Rhymes (JR) and Detection of Rhymes (DR). Participated of the study 131 children of 4-8 years, mean of 5.68 years, being 81.4% of public school of Santo Antônio de Jesus-BA; 45.6% of the children was feminine sex. In the analyses of dates were used the statistic tests ANOVA and Student's t test. RESULTS: The results demonstrated statistic different significant between the children of 4 to 8 years with formation of two age groups (4-5 and 6-8 years). The results to Scheffé and Student's t test demonstrated differences significant between groups in the three tasks, being that the variable gender demonstrated differences in the JR, only group 4-5 years. CONCLUSION: We conclude that study indicate the need to assessment skills rhyme development in the pre-school and initial school, because the skills of preschool children to alliteration and rhyme detect can predict their later success in learning to read and write.
