Educational interventions with preschool children are important for the cognitive skills development, necessary for learning. This study aimed to investigate the effect of cognitive stimulation program "Ativamente" in preschool children of São Luis do Maranhão. The study included 20 children between 3 and 6 years old. We evaluated intelligence, attention, memory and language before and after intervention. The intervention lasted 4 months. The results showed a significant increase in performance on intelligence, attention, phonoarticulatory, naming letters and spelling. Similarly, a significant decrease in color and objects time naming, indicating an increase in the speed of rapid automatic naming. The results show the importance of early stimulation for the development of cognitive skills that are predictors of academic performance.
