Abstract

PORTES, Daniella Soares. The importance of Neurosciences in English language teachers' training. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2015, vol.32, n.98, pp. 168-181. ISSN 0103-8486.

In this article, we propose thinking about the importance of Neurosciences in English language teachers' training since they as well as other education professionals deal directly with the learning organ, the brain. Nevertheless, most English teachers did not study Neurosciences because the teaching degree programs do not offer this content in Brazil. Therefore, many English teachers are incapable, for instance, of detecting students with possible learning disorders and referring them to professionals who can make an assessment, such as neurologists, psychologists, speech therapists, psychiatrists and psychopedagogists. We do not defend, however, the idea of making English language teachers experts in healthcare areas of study, but experts in education, capable of reflecting, on the one hand, on their teaching practice which interferes, in turn, in the performance and evolution of their students, and on the other hand, on the learning process and its difficulties.
