Abstract

There is relationship between psychomotor development and learning disability?: Comparative study in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, school difficulties and learning disorder. INTRODUCTION: The study aimed to evaluate psychomotor performance of children with learning disabilities, learning difficulties and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The specific objective was to evaluate psychomotor skills in different types of learning disability. METHODS: 25 children both genders were evaluated. The age at evaluation was 7-11 years. After evaluation at the DISAPRE/FCM/ UNICAMP the children received the following diagnoses: ADHD (8), learning disabilities (6) and learning difficulties (11). Motor Development Scale (Rosa Neto, 2002) was used to assess fine motor skills, gross motor skills, equilibration, body perception, spatial organization and temporal organization. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: All children had lower motor age than expected for their chronological age. Children with ADHD had worst performance than children with learning disabilities and learning difficulties, but result statistically significant was found only in body perception This study show that there is relationship between poor performance on psychomotor skills in all children with different types of learning problem. So, it is important introduce psychomotor education at school in order to prevent and minimize academic problems.
