OBJECTIVE: To discuss the vicissitudes of pedagogical intervention targeted to higher education students. METHOD: Qualitative approach, classified as a study of analytical focus and classical content analysis type. RESULTS: Psychopedagogic action for students of higher education differs in the utilized approach. Professional qualification in the area and selection of procedures and adequate resources for each case, are crucial in this process. Recognition practices of learning style and systematization of modes of study and dialogue are both recommended for showing some effectiveness in academic performance. CONCLUSION: The dynamics of events in the university course challenges the educational psychologist to develop actions that meet the different needs of individuals.
