Abstract

This research aimed to develop an understanding of program reader through Cloze technique. The study included 60 school children aged between 9 and 11 years (mean=10.4 years) of 4th year municipal elementary school in a city in São Paulo. A program with six training with selected texts and after transformed into power point slide as a resource differential for intervention in reading comprehension through Cloze technique was developed. They were divided into two groups, GI with 30 students who received the intervention and GII with 30 students who did not receive reading comprehension intervention. The results showed statistically significant differences, showing that the students had achieved superior performance compared to students who did not receive the intervention of reading comprehension program. The comparison of pre and post-test indicated a significant difference, demonstrating that Cloze technique seem suitable for development of reading comprehension.
