Abstract

FREITAS, Nájila Bianca Campos et al. Perceptions of children and adolescents with cancer on school reintegration. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2016, vol.33, n.101, pp. 175-183. ISSN 0103-8486.

The aim of this study is to analyze the perceptions that cancer patients have about school reintegration. For this, we adopted the theory of social perception, because it guides behavior and, consequently, is influenced due to the behavior of others. In this study, four cancer patients participated, between nine and thirteen years of age, residents of cities in the state of Paraiba. The participants answered an interview with semi-structured, cartoon-themed story and the socio-demographic questionnaire. The data was analyzed using Bardin Content Analysis. The results indicated that the participants perceive the school reintegration as a space that promotes well-being and motivation, but also a context that enhances the feeling of distress. From this, it is understandable that there is need to develop an interdisciplinary work that makes it possible to develop strategies that enhance the skills of the subject and its adaptation to the school context.
