This study aimed to compare the occurrence of phonological processes altered and the phonological disorders severity index in a sample of speech and writing among students from 1st to 5th year of public and private education. 300 students participated, 150 students of public education and 150 students of private education, distributed between 1st and 5th grade level, both genders, aged between 6 years to 10 years and 11 months old. Were applied the phonology proof of Child Language Test - ABFW, proof of thematic writing and calculate the severity index in both proof. The results showed a better performance of private educational school in phonological tests and thematic writing. When analyzing the severity index was noted that the severity of phonological disorder was classified as weak in both school systems. In applying the severity index in the writing sample was observed predominantly weak classification, but the students of 1st and 2nd year of both the public school and in particular, were identified slightly moderate, moderately severe and severe classification. The findings contributed to the establishment of a profile of students from oral-written relationship in literacy period.
