Abstract

The cleft lip and palate is a craniofacial malformation that results from multifactorial conditions, these being genetic and environmental. International and national studies have shown cognitive alterations, specifically to the deficits in the visomotor perception capacity, indicating difficulties in the use and academic adaptation. The objective of this study was to identify the level of fine-adaptive motor development in children with cleft lip and palate. The sample consisted of 88 participants, both sexes, aged between 5 years and 6 years and 11 months, comprising two groups with 44 children, being GI with cleft lip and palate and GII without the cleft condition. In the evaluation of the adaptive thin motor domain, the DENVER II test was used. The results showed 29.55% of GI participants classified as "delayed", and 15.91% categorized as "attention" to impairment in adaptive fine motor development, corresponding to 25% more lagged when compared to GII (79.55% on average). It was possible to recognize the predominance of levels of cognitive and neuropsychomotor immaturity in the group with cleft lip and palate, fundamental skills for mastery of academic competences, among them, writing, arithmetic and reading.
