Abstract

MELLO, Rodrigo Vieira de  and  PIRES, Emmy Uehara. The influence of video games on children's cognition: Neuropsychological studies. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2020, vol.37, n.112, pp. 97-109. ISSN 0103-8486.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/0103-8486.20200009.

Several studies have found evidence that video games can have a positive impact on aspects of cognition such as attention, working memory and executive functions. The present study aimed to conduct a systematic review of the literature using the PRISMA method on SciELO, LILACS, PsycINFO and PubMed platforms to investigate the main methods and designs in studies using video games with cognitive focus in the 6 to 12-year-old age group. Eighteen articles were selected and analyzed according to the methods / designs used, being categorized in the variables as: target audience, experimental groups, instruments, pre and post-test design, types of video games (game genre, duration, rewards, etc.), psychophysiological resources, generalization / transfer effects and follow-up studies, among others. The article seeks to contribute to the theme, bringing proposals for conducting future research in the area.
