Abstract

SANTOS, Jéssica July Dantas  and  FARO, André. Hardiness, stress, and academic adaptation: a narrative literature review. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2022, vol.39, n.119, pp. 229-241. ISSN 0103-8486.  http://dx.doi.org/10.51207/2179-4057.20220020.

Admission to higher education represents a series of changes and new challenges for students, bringing adaptation and adjustment needs to the new context. This review aims to present the main concepts and theoretical perspectives about the hardiness construct, gather evidence of its mitigating potential in relation to the effects of stress and analyze the possible relationship between hardiness and the adjustment process in the context of academic adaptation. For this, a theoretical review, of a narrative and non-systematic nature, was carried out in the SciELO, Pepsic, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases, in August 2021. In the end, the relevance of the hardiness personality profile was verified as element capable of mitigating the effects of stress and as a psychological variable related to the ability of university students to deal with adverse situations.

Keywords : Hardiness; Hardiness; Stress; Academic Adaptation; Health Psychology; Psychological Adjustment.
