The article presents some memory of the recent past - the 80's until today, the stock that became significant at both the national and the state of São Paulo, on the movement in support of hospitalized patients in the old forensic psychiatric hospitals. It also intends, through these passages, a brief review of the complexity of dealing with the issue, despite advances in legislation on mental health in Brazil, taking into consideration some experiments at the Hospital of Custody and Psychiatric Treatment Professor André Teixeira Lima, Franco's Rocha, State of Sao Paulo.
