Within this paper we present the results of a qualitative research based on four thematic sociodramas, through which we gained some insight into how adolescents - children of parents in their first marriage and children of divorced/separated/re-married parents - understand and face their parents’ conflicts. Which are the conflicting issues identified by them and how do these develop? Which are their solutions within this context? This study was carried out with the participation if forty-five adolescents from a middle-class private school in São Paulo City. thematic sociodrama has proved to be an appropriate instrument for the exploration of issues elucidated through clinical research, for the understanding of family dynamics, and for developing an educational and therapeutic procedure that respects the vulnerability of those involved and preserves their privacy. The results of this study were significant for the understanding of family dynamics and conflicts. Through the creative action of spontaneous theatre the participants were able to express how different conceptions of the family are established, and how they understand family roles.
