The author of this article introduces the characteristics of debatetheatre, a variation the spontaneous theatre, illustrating these through the account of a session in which certain issues were raised. The historical background and context of this approach as well as its correlation with other working modalities within the area are presented. In this working modality the audience is invited to debate a certain topic that has been announced before the session or decided on there and then. The aim of the process is to then gradually move from the more traditional verbal debate onto a scenic exploration, during which the audience will improvise a story that simultaneously expresses their feelings and thoguths around the chosen topic. The event is led by a director in conjunction with a team of trained actors whose objective is to stimulate the participation of the audience.
