Abstract

From contributions of Psychoanalysis, it is presented an understanding concerning eating disorders - anorexia and bulimia-in adolescence as pathologies whose dynamics can establish some bindings with features and questions about our time. Adolescence is considered as a vital period of fragility and psychic vulnerability, the article explores some aspects of contemporary society, as the performance culture, the imposition of ideals of perfection and completeness and the superficiality of the bonds. It is proposed that this scenario has a relation with the psychic dynamics of these ailments in which the body assumes the place of expression of suffering. It is also considered that bulimia and anorexia addresses to some questions concerning narcissistic fragility and failure in the recognition of otherness, it is highlighted that, beside the undeniable influence on the cultural context in an attempt to understand these psychic ailments, it is necessary to consider listening a unique history of the subject
