Abstract

Health professionals' work have gained increasing attention in academic circles of psychology, especially studies concerning to their phisical and psychological health. This study evaluated the levels of Burnout and job satisfaction of nursing professionals from a country city of RS. The sample consisted of 86 participants (38 men and 48 women), aged between 21 and 50 years old (M = 32.1, SD = 6.97) and length of service between 5 and 204 months (M = 54.9; SD = 48.71). The participants completed, in small groups at work space, a demographic questionnaire, a burnout scale and a work satisfaction scale. The results showed that most professionals have low risk for burnout, but the level of medium risk is dangerous. As to satisfaction, there was impact of variables such as department, gender and work shift in the levels of satisfaction. These results indicate the importance of actions to prevent chronic stress in work environment and the observation of groups according to their occupational specificities
