D'ANGELO, Rosanna M. Martins  e  MONTANES, Maria Concepción Menéndez. Depression and/or codependency in women: the need for a differential diagnosis. Barbaroi [online]. 2011, n.34, pp. 125-145. ISSN 0104-6578.

The codependency construct from the field of addictions and expanded to that of interpersonal psychology, refers to a dysfunctional way of relating where the codependent focuses his life on others with neglect of himself taking responsibility for their behavior, trying to control, rescue and save their lives. Currently, common mental disorders such as anxiety or depression occupy 40-50% of psychiatric care. As co-dependency, these disorders cause disability, loss of quality of life, suffering, social isolation, stigma, physical overmorbility and / or mortality for suicidal behavior. There is a great similarity in the symptoms of depression and codependency, women being the most affected. This study, a revision of existing theory - a bibliographic study of the database PsycINFO about codependency and depression in women, focuses on codependency, those who suffer from it, the most widely used assessment instruments and the research linking codependency and depression in women. It investigates especially the existing differential diagnosis used for depression and codependency, as well as treatments, highlighting the need for comprehensive intervention in the mental health of women.
