This article presents the report of psychological intervention in the pediatric ward of a school hospital, referring to the recent statement of diagnosis and early treatment of a chronic disease called Juvenile Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. This disease is autoimmune and its etiology, evolution and consequences are still unclear. This article aims to describe the relationship between understanding the illness and family dynamics and contribute information about the disease and enhance the practices of health professionals with chronic diseases. A boy of eight years and his family were attended. Psychological support was, initially, to soften the impact of the diagnosis, clarify doubts regarding the new routine and care. After this moment, the family were assisted in the reorganization and restructuring of his dynamics, especially in marital and parental relationships. It discusses the relevance of psychological intervention in situations of chronic disease and the importance of multidisciplinary monitoring of chronically ill and their families.
