Abstract

MERLINO, Aldo; MARTINEZ, Alejandra  and  ESCANE, Gabriel. Social representations of masculinity and agressiveness in vehicular transit: the anger when driving in Argentina. Barbaroi [online]. 2011, n.35, pp. 199-217. ISSN 0104-6578.

This article tackles the relation between the social representations of certain masculine gender norms and the practices that men develop while driving. In this work we understand that some representations around the demonstration of masculinity could be related to behaviors that tend to risk, speed and certain aggressiveness, that are shown by men when they drive, and that are potentially harmful to vehicular order and vial security. To illustrate this discussion, we refer to a recent research in which an index of anger was developed. That index show how there's a tendency among men to drive experiencing tension and anger, more than women.

Keywords : Masculinities; Gender Norms; Transit Norms; Social Representations; Index of Anger.
