The article aims to prove the hypothesis that the notion of ego in psychoanalysis goes back to the Freudian theory, even if it lacks its formal definition, being very subtle in between the lines of Freud's texts, in opposition to the Descarte's cogito and the supremacy of the ego. It's in Lacan that this nuance gains status of concept, being the central piece of Lacanian work, that he names "return to Freud", until the concept of parletre takes place.
