Abstract

This study aimed to investigate how mothers felt unable to breastfeed and experienced such a situation. This is a qualitative study, conducted through a semi-structured interviews with three different groups of mothers, namely: HIV-positive mothers, mothers who did not possess enough milk to breastfeed their children, and Mothers of babies with lactose intolerance and taking as a theoretical and methodological content analysis, which identified five themes related to the feelings of mothers about: the desire to breastfeed, not breastfeeding, baby mama bond campaigns for breastfeeding, prejudice about not breastfeeding. The results demonstrated the dilemma and suffering of these mothers who are saddened because of this impossibility, but struggle to offer the best possible for their children.
