Resumen

BRAUN, Ana Claudia  y  CARLOTTO, Mary Sandra. Burnout syndrome in special education teachers. Barbaroi [online]. 2013, n.39, pp. 53-69. ISSN 0104-6578.

This study aims to investigate the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome and its association with demographic and labor variables and occupational coping strategies in 88 special education teachers in the region of Vale dos Sinos, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Three research tools were used: 1- Demographic and labor data questionnaire; 2 - Cuestionario para La Evaluación del Síndrome de Quemarse por el Trabajo - CESQT; 3 - Occupational Coping Scale. The results evidence a prevalence of 3.4% of teachers with Profile 1 and Profile 2 of Burnout Syndrome. Results obtained through the Pearson correlation test showed a positive association between the amount of weekly work hours in teaching and Enthusiasm toward the job. Thinking about changing careers showed a positive relation with Psychological exhaustion and Indolence. The number of students served was negatively correlated with the dimension of Guilt. In relation to coping strategies, there was evidence that the greater the use of control strategies, the greater Enthusiasm toward the job; and the greater the use of avoidance strategies, the less Enthusiasm toward the job and the greater the teachers' Psychological exhaustion and Indolence.
