This article aims to discuss the use of genograms in multifamily groups. To do so, it describes an experience conducted in a semi-intensive mental health service of a highly complex psychiatric hospital within Brazil’s Unified Health System - SUS. Departing from Social Constructionism as a theoretical reference, relational and intrapsychic aspects are the starting points for the discussion, as well as the centrality of language in the social construction of reality. The considerations reiterate the idiosyncratic force of the genogram as a generative and transforming resource in multifamily groups.
