DYMOND, Simon; ROCHEA, Bryan  e  ANNE REHFELDT, Ruth. Relational frame theory and the transformation of stimulus function. Rev. Latinoam. Psicol. [online]. 2005, vol.37, n.2, pp. 291-303. ISSN 0120-0534.

Relational frame theory is a modern theory and technology of language and cognition that places great emphasis on the transformation of stimulus functions in accordance with multiple stimulus relations. We review recent research on the transformation of stimulus functions and argue that derived transformation is of clinical relevance, not only because it accounts for the emergence of novel responses to previously neutral stimuli in the absence of direct conditioning, but because it also helps account for the development of novel avoidance strategies and their rapid generalization. Possible constraints on the derived transformation effect by the physical forms of stimuli are then outlined. In conclusion, ongoing applied and basic analysis of the transformation of functions phenomenon represents both one of the most important challenges and opportunities for modern behavior analysis.
