This research work aimed at understanding and exploring the social representations of gender identity in a woman uses violence as a strategy to interact and solve conflicts in her family. The participant was an adult woman, mother and wife who attended the Psychological Service Center at a Family Police Inspection in Cota, to consult about intrafamiliar violence in which her participation is active. A qualitative methodology with a symbolic interpretative model was used. The study of single unique case permitted to obtain the discourse and an analysis of her social representations. The results of this analysis were interpreted using an emic and ethical perspective, that contributed to design the intervention programs for this group. The objective will permit to re-signify the beliefs in connection with the woman’s role in our present society.
