Resumen

RAVENTOS VORST, Henriette. Bases genéticas de la esquizofrenia: nurture vrs nature. Actual. psicol. [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.106, pp. 131-138. ISSN 0258-6444.

The present article reviews the scientific evidence demonstrating the heritability of schizophrenia, its complex mode of inheritance and possible genetic and environmental heterogeneity. Linked chromosomal loci and candidate genes are presented. The objective is to present the most important results in the field of schizophrenia genetics. Although the participation of environmental factors in the etiology of this disorder is widely accepted, they are not discussed in this paper. Finally, the lamarkian model presented by Prof. Bolaños is discussed. The goal is to convince that there is no contradiction between the psychological and biological model at present. The modern view of schizophrenia unifies both models: the disorder is considered as a neurodevelopmental disorder with disease susceptibility causing genes, epigenetic factors and environmental noxa, including psychosocial factors.

Palabras clave : Schizophrenia; Complex inheritance; Genetic heterogeneity.
