Abstract

JIMENEZ-ALFARO, Karol  and  MORALES-FERNANDEZ, Evelyn. Validez predictiva del Promedio de Admisión de la Universidad de Costa Rica y sus componentes. Actual. psicol. [online]. 2010, vol.23-24, n.10-111, pp. 21-55. ISSN 0258-6444.

The goal of this research is to establish the level of predictive validity of the "Admission Average" and its components, using as criterion indicators an "Academic Achievement" measure and the Accumulated Grade Point Average for the first two and a half years of study. The analysis was done with the data of 4484 students who enrolled at the University of Costa Rica in 1999. First, bivariate correlations were calculated with the different predictor variables. Multiple regression models were also adjusted for the prediction of the academic performance variables, using the components of the Admission Average and some sociodemographic variables as predictors. According to this analysis, the Admission Average and its components, in general, are still the most important predictors for a student's academic performance at the undergraduate level in the University of Costa Rica.

Keywords : University Admision tests; predictive validity; academic achievement; multiple regression; correlational analysis.
