Abstract

NAFFAH NETO, Alfredo. The problem of false self in borderline patients: revisiting Winnicott. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2007, vol.41, n.4, pp. 77-88. ISSN 0486-641X.

This essay articulates Winnicott’s theory of the split false self to the author’s clinical experience implicating borderline patients. This encounter generates a theoretical proposition of two kinds of borderline patients: the schizoid personality and the "as if" personality. The author starts from the description of the symptomatology of these pathological diseases and, then, proposes different etiologies for them, and also describes their singularity in the modalities of transference they produce in psychoanalytical work.

Keywords : Borderline; Schizoid; "As if"; Etiology; Modality of transference.
